Shanna went to a trial to remove her attorney from her case in October and stood up and said she wanted to plead guilty then. It wasn't her trial, which promised to have lots of press .So her November trial was canceled, and her sentencing is in January. She's guilty. Her lawyer wanted out because he'd found some very good cases regarding the date rape drug GHB which he felt would get her off. She insisted she wanted to plead guilty. In her new-found Christiandom, it is what she believes she must do.(See the Shanna links on the index page) She feels guilty for taking the date rape drug and driving and killing a woman and wants to serve her sentence. I did not meet her until after the accident. I found her to be a nice, peppy young lady who would and seems to get along well with the marginalized--the gay, the cross-dresser, the hooker, the people filming porno movies for the internet--this seems to be her crowd. I just hope that while in prison she is given the meds she needs for her bipolar illness and she comes out ok. Somehow I just can't see her going meekly to prison so I am afraid she has a suicide planned. There is really nothing I can do but be here when she calls (which she does, sometimes, to talk about God). And pray for her. And warn pre-teens not to try drugs like her, and warn moms and dads to get help for teens who are promiscuous because it isn't normal. I don't know why Shanna's mother sees it as defects in Shanna's character but I don't know how I'd handle a disruptive mentally ill daughter either. |
